Guardian Eyes

Paddling Wisconsin's Red Cedar River, 

She leads us, further, downstream.

Great Wings, white head, broad tail, 

dropping from the bank's close, tight trees.

Three, four, then a fifth time! 

Disappearing into the dream. 

Eyes of the Past seeing into the future, 

Home from the forest wild,

Ever watchful, all ways keen.
